Id Kah Mosque, located in the heart of Kashgar's old city in Xinjiang, is the largest mosque in China. First built in 1442, it has been expanded and restored many times over the centuries and today covers about 16,800 square meters. Its yellow-brick facade, flanked by two slender minarets, opens onto a tree-shaded courtyard and a prayer hall supported by carved green wooden pillars. The mosque can hold up to 20,000 worshippers during major festivals such as Eid, when the square in front fills with people. It remains both an active place of worship and one of Kashgar's best-known landmarks, where visitors can see traditional Uyghur Islamic architecture up close.
