Planning to explore China with young children? For a smoother trip, make sure to have a child safety seat ready—either bring one from home or purchase one after arrival. Most rental cars don’t include them, and it’s the best way to keep your little traveler safe and happy on the road.
Child Safety Seat Requirements in China
According to China’s road safety standards:
Children under 4 years old or shorter than 1.4 meters (approximately 4'7") should use a child safety seat or booster cushion that complies with the Chinese national standard GB 27887-2011 to ensure adequate protection during vehicle travel.
How to Prepare a Child Safety Seat for Your Trip
Since local rental companies (such as eHi Car Services) in China generally do not provide child safety seats, we recommend the following options:
1. Bring Your Own Seat from Abroad
Most international airlines allow one child safety seat per child to be checked in for free, and some even permit using the seat onboard the aircraft (subject to airline policy).
→ Tip: Check with your airline in advance to confirm their specific rules regarding size, weight, and cabin use.
2. Purchase or Rent a Child Safety Seat in China
China offers a wide variety of affordable, high-quality child safety seats. You can buy one/rent online via major e-commerce platforms like Taobao or JD.com, or in physical baby product stores.
→ Important: Verify that it is compatible with your rental vehicle’s seat belt.
