Things to Prepare for booking your car with eHi
A phone with an active number
A valid email address (if booking via eHi English website)
Your passport
Travel itinerary
WeChat or Alipay installed
Websites of eHi - The letter "e" is pronounced the same as the number "1" in Chinese
Chinese: https://www.1hai.cn Download the bilingual app (Strongly recommended)
English: https://en.1hai.cn
Installing the app may take a bit of effort, but it’s absolutely worth it. Based on our experience, the eHi app offers the best overall booking and usage experience. It runs more smoothly and reliably than the English website, and allows for quick switching between Chinese and English.
More importantly, the app includes all the key details available in the Chinese version—such as insurance options and deposit policies—which are not fully provided on the English website and would otherwise need to be confirmed and paid for at the time of vehicle pickup. The app also offers a more complete and up-to-date selection of vehicle models.
In addition, during the pickup and usage stages, certain steps—such as uploading your temporary driving permit and checking order details—must be completed via the eHi app or through WeChat/Alipay mini programs. All of these can be conveniently handled within the eHi app.
Steps to Book Your Car
Sign up and verify your account, or simply log in if you already have one.
Choose your pick-up and drop-off city (or cities), along with your travel dates.
Select your preferred store location(s) for pick-up and return.
Pick a car class that suits your trip.
Review your details and confirm your booking — you can cancel or rebook later for free.
Notice
It’s best to book your car 1–2 months in advance, especially during major Chinese holidays.
Choose a convenient pick-up location based on your itinerary — either at the airport or near your hotel in the city where your road trip begins.
Write a note to eHi to ensure the car is equipped with an ETC device and does not have a temporary license plate. Trust us—this will make your road trip much smoother and more efficient!
Pick-Up
Make sure the WeChat account linked to the phone number used for booking is active, along with WeChat Pay. You’ll also need a valid credit card in your name linked to WeChat Pay. (The same applies to your Alipay.)
Apply for your temporary driving permit in China ahead of time.
When picking up your car, bring the following:
Your temporary driving permit in China
Your original driver’s license
Your passport
