Driving into Maolan National Forest felt like stepping into a hidden village swallowed by ancient woods — as if time had quietly rolled back a few decades. Our Buyi hosts welcomed us with open arms, and with a local guide, we ventured deep into the forest to explore its caves. And then came the moment we'll never forget: a huge beam of sunlight poured in through a small opening in the cave, cutting through the darkness like something out of a dream.
